January 9th Transfer

Koby was transferred out of the "meadow" and into the "pond" of the NICU today. These are the names the nurses use for sections of the NICU. The meadow is for the most critical babies, and the pond is for those that are seeing progress. So he has graduated and is advancing. He has to make these steps in order to eventually graduate into living with all of the commotion in our home.






We've thought that if he could get a little bit hungry he may catch on to associating hunger with the need to eat and suck. But the bigger concern is still that he gets the nutrients and can gain weight. They are adding extra calories to the milk he is getting to help boost his energy. The doctors know what they are doing so we can see the wisdom in their guidance with Koby.

He's doing well with breastmilk which is great. But with a constantly full tummy he has little reason to wake up. He seems to sleep all day and night. Sharalee spent the day up with him and he slept most of the time. We are trying to not let this concern us. I can never ever remember complaining that a newborn doesn't cry and sleeps through the night. But Koby has shaken things up from our usual baby routine.
