January 4th Shock

The morning started with a surprise call from the hospital. When the hospital calls I immediately get a stressed out feeling, as most of the hospital calls to this point haven't been great.
Our great nurse Erica called by saying that, first off, Koby is ok. So that was a good start to the conversation. She shocked us by saying that they felt comfortable removing his breathing tube. What?!!! This was such a shock to us as last night his breathing left us feeling very nervous.

We are at the hospital now and we are still in shock. We met with the doctor in person and he said that he was seeing good things. They are still performing an EEG on his brain, and he thought his breathing was stabilizing more. So he called the Neurologist and asked him to get a partial reading of the EEG so far today. He said there was some brain activity and that it would be ok to take out the ventilator. So far he is doing well without it.

I asked the doctor what Koby's chances are now. He said that he could tell us with a lot of confidence that Koby will survive. My goodness it is such a miracle. So that is just the best news ever. He said there are still many questions we don't have answers to, and there are still a lot of things we will need to just wait and see in order to have a more clear picture. We need to find out if he can figure out how to eat, swallow, see, hear, and all of the reflex tendencies. We do know that he is getting better at breathing and does know how to grip our fingers.
And we heard his voice for the first time. It was faint but there was at least some noise. Our nurse said he did cry a little after the breathing tube was removed so that was so encouraging.

We have a lot ahead of us still, but the fact that he will survive is really everything we have been asking for. If he has a lot of other hurdles to overcome we can live with that. There is no other explanation for all of this other than we had a legion of people praying for Koby around the world. No matter what happens from here we have seen and felt enough miracles to last a lifetime. Thank you for helping to save our child. And keep praying. We will continue to post updates as we have them. We are at least able to sleep better knowing that he is already beating the odds that he was up against.

If you listen closely to the video you can hear some noises. The wrap on his head will be removed tonight.

UPDATE: at 350pm the neurologist just said that they are ending the EEG now because he no longer is measuring seizures. Another miracle.
