January 6, 2015

We are still waiting to meet with the neurologist and see how Koby's brain is functioning. But so far, he is making small progress every day. They did an ultrasound on his brain while we were here at the hospital today. We watched closely but couldn't tell what any of it meant. It was confirmed that there is a brain inside his head but other than that it just looked like something from a textbook on pictures of a baby's brain :)

We wish we could spend more time with him but will have to learn how to balance life in the NICU with life at home with our other 5 kids. We aren't sure how to do it yet but we are grateful it is something we have the privilege of dealing with. The alternative was much worse! Tomorrow the kids go back to school and I will go back to work part time. We will take this one day at a time.

It appears that Koby will need to learn to do the basics that usually come naturally to a newborn. He doesn't know how to suck or eat, so he will have to learn how that works. He still doesn't really cry. I'm not super anxious for him to learn how to cry now that I know he can do it. His breathing is getting better. Our nurse now cares for Koby and two other babies. This is a big indication of progress as his first five days here required his nurse to only focus on him.

Thank you, again, for showing us such amazing support. This has been quite the journey so far.

He sure looks like the other boys in the family, just a little different hair. Lots of strides being made. So happy for your family! Sending love and {{HUGS}}!
